I truly believe that many of us find ourselves just accepting that our current situation just is what it is. Why? If you have the power to improve, why do you not? If you can be a better man or woman, or just in general a better person, why do we accept not being? Many of our clients come in and have experienced success before, whether that success has come professionally, in their relationships, or even just physically. But why can’t we be successful in all fields? I’ve never understood why a person just accepts themselves as who they are, when we all have the potential to improve as a person.
Not only do I think everyone can improve in all these categories, I am absolutely convinced that they are all interconnected. Being successful in one field is not linear, it spills over into other parts of each of our lives. Health and wellness is not limited to the physical it reaches all aspects of life, including the metaphysical, the mind, a person’s attitude, their confidence, and their passions in life as well. Health and wellness is as directly related to our relationships as it is to our diet. Our careers are just as related to our health as it is to our physical make up. Everything is connected. If we struggle in our careers, our attitude and stress will likely reflect such, same with our relationships, and the same with our physical well-being. If we do not take care of our physical health, what actually feels the majority of the effects is unquestionably our mental health. It’s this dichotomy that many people just don’t realize. That our health and wellness is more related to the mind than it is even the body.
Many of you are probably familiar with the Serenity Prayer, it reads: “Grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” It’s such a simple concept, yet many of us refuse to heed this simple advice. There are many things that we cannot control, but we can control ourselves. We do have the power to be better. We do have the power to achieve more in our careers, we do have the power to be a better spouse or friend, and we do have the power to improve ourselves physically. So what’s stopping you? It just takes the will power to try. The worst thing that happens is you get knocked down, and then you just have to dust yourself off and get back up. Because it’s not the finish line that matters, it’s the many steps you take to get there that truly matter."
